The ceiling´s
painting was crafted in the early 13th
century.
(painted on oak, 27.6 x 8.7 m)
The painting depicts the "Jesse-Baum"
(Jesse = Isai, the father of David,
into whose tribe messiah was expected
to be born) in connection with biblical
genealogical trees of Jesus (Mt 1,1-17
and Lk 3,23-38)
The ceiling´s painting contains
a row with 8 main sections. The first
section depicts paradise and the Fall
of Man.
The second section shows Jesse on
a magnificent rest, with a tree growing
out of it ("Jesse-Baum").
The main sections three to six may
be interpreted as the fruits of the
tree. The seventh section follows
with Mary as the "new Eve".
The last main section is not preserved
as an original. With the collapse
of the crossing tower in 1650 this
section, along with surrounding ones,
has been destroyed.
The current image was crafted in 1960
after a 19th century pattern. It shows
Christ as the judge of the worlds.
Numerous prophets can be found in
both columns of pictures to the right
and left of the main sections.
